Museum and Peace Park

Once again I haven't updated this in too long. Got preoccupied with my studies, but I've been on a few more field trips since I last posted. A couple weeks ago we had a trip to the Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture, and then to the Peace Park.

Saw this gorgeous ship docked in Nagasaki

Met this cutie at the beach

Sakamoto Ryouma, the real "last samurai"

Some dioramas of the early history of Nagasaki

A play was put on at the museum

They occasionally broke character to interact with the audience

Relics from the Shimabara rebellion

A scroll from the Korean ambassador

Many gifts from foreign dignitaries poured into Japan through Nagasaki

Some lovely hairpins

The Dutch traders at Dejima

A Dutch-Indian clock

Some very old firearms

Telegraph equipment that connected Nagasaki to Vladivostok and Shanghai
After the museum, we went to the Peace Park. It was very solemn, and the tour was guided by a survivor of the bombing.

The memorial itself

The new Urakami Cathedral

The site of the old Urakami Cathedral

An obelisk marking the spot of the detonation

A wall from the old Urakami Cathedral

Another visitor

Tomorrow I'll post about the trip I took the following week, to the Sotome area.
