Nagasaki Bio Park

Yesterday was amazing! I went to the Bio Park, a special zoo where they let you get up close and pet some of the animals. It was a great experience, and I got plenty of excellent pictures.

Some alpacas

A miniature horse

These little cuties are called Mara

They'll eat right out of your hand

The flower dome had many beautiful flowers. Butterflies too, but they weren't sitting still for a picture

It was daytime, so this fruit bat was fast asleep

There was a small shinto altar there

A small island with some monkeys

A molting Humboldt penguin

Two hippos. I stopped by later at feeding time

Beavers, fairly common in America, but exotic to the Japanese

Some lovely flamingoes

They're surprisingly gentle

Prairie dogs

These meerkats popped out of nowhere

Rhinoceros beetles.

A more lively specimen here

Goats

The babies were so cute!

More monkeys

Tapirs

The capybaras are considered by many to be the park's main attraction. You can go right into their habitat to feed and pet them, and they're really friendly.

Lounging around under a warm waterfall

And soaking in a warm bath

Like a giant guinea pig

They love bamboo

This guy stayed like this for around 30 minutes

There was a swan in the river around their habitat

Coatis, a South American relative of the raccoon

Remarkably agile

This picture was hard to get

River otters. They were hiding under the glass, so the picture didn't come out great

Some cute skunks

Another Meerkat. They show up in various places

An alpaca

Raccoons

There's a slot in the glass to feed them, and they mob it whenever someone goes by

The red pandas were very active, so it wasn't easy to get a good picture

Saw some ducks

And managed to get this on the way back

Two giraffes

According to the sign, they're "newlyweds" and their names are Mizuki and Nick

Sheep.

This is a kookaburra

Another of the really "big" attractions was the monkey forest. They warn you before going in to secure all your valuables. Monkeys are very curious.

Some squirrel monkeys sitting on a fence

They will climb all over you

One pressed the take photo button on my camera

Monkey on my shoulder

There were also black lemurs. They didn't climb on you, but they would eat out of your hands

This is what happens when you try to bring drinks into the monkey forest

A few peacocks were in the forest as well

Another popular attraction was the kangaroos

One poor little girl was absolutely terrified of this one

They'd come right up to you

Some exotic fish in the Amazon dome

Naked mole rats. These guys bring back some memories

On the way out, I stopped by "Pet Animal World", and met so many adorable animals.

This is a pygmy marmoset. They love to climb, but don't really steal things like squirrel monkeys

A huge rabbit

Some cute rats

Guinea pigs!

An owl

Some hedgehogs. Not sure if the tortoise in with them is real or not

A chinchilla. His fur is so soft

I learned that pygmy marmosets will jump on your shoulder with no warning

Here's that giant rabbit again. her name's Alice

The marmoset again, curious about the degu in the wire tube

There was also an entire room of cats!!!

Chilling on top of a fish tank

This little rascal also managed to get into the cats' room

This is a happy cat

They had a bunch of stuff to climb
And another room for dogs, along with an outdoor enclosure

Alice again, with a normal sized rabbit for scale

The wire made it hard to get a good picture of the degu

A baby rat

African Grey parrot

I loved it, and I hope to go back someday if possible.
