Katafuchi

My conversation partner Manami showed me around the middle school she went to, Katafuchi Middle School. Nagasaki is unique among Japan's major cities in that there aren't any actual castles, since it was under the shogun's direct control rather than any feudal lord. But Katafuchi is designed to resemble a castle. I took a lot of excellent pictures.

The gate

Getting ready to enter

A nice hilltop view

Lots of medals and awards on display

Classrooms, arranged in the Japanese manner

Info on solar power

The kanji undou, meaning movement or exercise

The school's logo

There were some beautiful aquariums set up

 And a traditional Japanese-style room

This bus stop is no longer functioning

Even this supply shed is in the style of a castle
